HyperPay FAQ: Safety, Fees and Supported Chains

HyperPay is a cryptocurrency wallet combining custodial and self-custody storage, a prepaid spending card (HyperCard), staking, and collateralized loans. The wallet has operated since 2017 and is audited by independent firms SlowMist and CertiK. This page answers the most common questions about safety, fees, supported assets, and how HyperPay's features work.

Download Wallet

The wallet is downloaded from our official download page — installers for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Safety & Trust

Is HyperPay safe?

HyperPay is audited by two independent security firms, SlowMist and CertiK, and custodial assets are managed through HyperBC's institutional custody infrastructure. The wallet has operated since 2017 with no publicly reported major security incident. Audit scope and custody detail are on the HyperPay wallet security and audits page.

Is HyperPay open source?

The core app is not — its code isn't publicly available for independent review, and trust relies on named third-party audits (SlowMist, CertiK) instead. The exception is Sealer2100, HyperPay's premium hardware wallet, which is fully open-source (Apache 2.0, public GitHub) and audited by CertiK and Kudelski Labs.

Has HyperPay ever been hacked?

HyperPay has operated since 2017 and has not publicly reported a major security incident in that time. Independent audits by SlowMist and CertiK cover the wallet, and the HyperPay crypto wallet home page summarises the current security position.

Who publishes HyperPay?

HyperPay is published by CipherBC Hyperpay Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-registered company that has operated the wallet since 2017. Desktop build 5.6.210401 is distributed from hyperpay.dev, and official app-store listings carry the same publisher name.

HyperCard

What is HyperCard?

HyperCard is a prepaid spending card built into HyperPay. Deposit crypto like USDT, BTC, or ETH, and it converts to a spendable USD or EUR balance usable at merchants that accept standard card payments.

Do I need a bank account to use HyperCard?

No. HyperCard is designed to let you spend crypto without a traditional bank account, a credit check, or a local banking relationship. You fund the card from assets already held in your HyperPay wallet, and the converted balance behaves like any other prepaid card balance at checkout.

Is there a no-KYC option for HyperCard?

Yes. HyperCard offers a no-KYC tier; identity verification requirements and spending limits depend on the card tier and your region, and the current requirements are shown in the app before you apply.

Does HyperCard support Apple Pay?

Not currently. This is a known gap relative to some competitors — RedotPay restored Apple Pay support in January 2026, for example. If tapping a phone at a terminal is essential to you, see HyperPay vs. RedotPay before deciding.

Where can I use HyperCard?

At merchants accepting standard card payments — more than 50 million of them across 176+ countries — online and in person. That is a wider surface than gift-card models, which only work at brands participating in a voucher programme. The HyperCard crypto prepaid card page has the detail.

Which fiat currencies can HyperCard hold?

HyperCard balances are held in USD or EUR. You choose the spending currency when you convert crypto onto the card, and the converted balance behaves like any other prepaid card balance at checkout, online or in person.

Are there spending limits on HyperCard?

Yes, and they depend on the card tier and your region. Lower tiers, including the no-KYC option, carry lower limits; verified tiers carry higher ones. The current thresholds that apply to you are shown in the app before you apply.

Wallet & Custody

What's the difference between custodial and self-custody in HyperPay?

Custodial mode means HyperPay manages your private keys for you — simpler, but you rely on HyperPay's custody infrastructure. Self-custody mode means you control your own private keys directly. HyperPay lets you use either, or both, in the same account.

Can I hold both custody modes at the same time?

Yes. Custodial and self-custody balances live in one HyperPay account, so custody is chosen per balance rather than once for the whole portfolio. Both modes fund the same HyperCard balance, and moving between them does not require a second app or a migration.

Does HyperPay charge to hold assets?

No. Holding assets in HyperPay carries no account or storage fee. Costs arise at specific actions — network fees on withdrawals, and the conversion fee shown before moving crypto onto a HyperCard balance — and each is displayed before you confirm.

Which blockchains does HyperPay support?

HyperPay supports all mainstream public chains — including Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Tron, Solana, XRP Ledger, Litecoin, and Polygon — plus the tokens issued on them. Custodial mode covers a wider asset range than self-custody mode; the current list is shown in the app.

Can I use a hardware wallet with HyperPay?

Yes. HyperMate is HyperPay's Bluetooth-enabled hardware wallet, and Sealer2100 is the flagship device that signs fully offline via QR codes with iris-based access and publishes its firmware under Apache 2.0. Both keep private keys off internet-connected devices — see the HyperMate feature page.

What happens if I lose my recovery phrase?

Funds held in self-custody cannot be recovered without it, by HyperPay or anyone else, because the phrase is the keys rather than a password on an account. Back it up offline in two separate physical locations, and test a restore before funding the wallet.

Does HyperPay work on Linux?

Yes. Desktop build 5.6.210401 ships for Windows, macOS and Linux. The Linux build is the same full product as the other desktop builds, including custody modes, HyperCard management, staking and hardware pairing.

Can I use HyperPay without giving up custody of my keys?

Yes. Self-custody mode generates and stores keys locally on your device under BIP32/BIP39/BIP44/BIP45, so the recovery phrase restores your accounts in any standards-compliant wallet. Custodial mode is optional and can run alongside it in the same account.

Can I move crypto in from another wallet?

Yes. Send assets to a HyperPay receiving address on the matching network, exactly as with any other wallet transfer. Verify the network first and send a small test amount before moving a large balance, since on-chain transfers cannot be reversed.

Fees & Financial Services

What does HyperPay charge for crypto-to-fiat conversion?

A conversion fee applies when moving crypto into a spendable HyperCard balance. The exact rate depends on the asset and the fiat currency you convert into, and it is shown in the app before you confirm the conversion.

Can I earn interest on my crypto in HyperPay?

Yes, through built-in staking on supported proof-of-stake assets, with flexible terms for balances you may need soon and fixed terms for balances you will not touch. Rates vary by asset, term and network conditions, and are shown before you commit — they are not guaranteed returns.

Can I borrow against my crypto?

Yes. HyperPay offers collateralized crypto loans in the app: you post assets as security and borrow against them without selling. Loans are over-collateralized, and a large enough fall in collateral value can trigger partial liquidation. See staking and loans.

Are staking rewards guaranteed?

No. Staking rewards vary with the asset, the chosen term and network conditions, and the applicable rate is shown before you commit. Fixed terms restrict access to the balance for the duration, and flexible terms generally pay less in exchange for quicker withdrawal.

Can I swap between assets inside the wallet?

Yes. HyperPay includes a built-in exchange for converting between supported assets without a separate exchange account, priced at the rate quoted when you confirm. The exchange page explains how it works and shows an indicative calculator.

Getting Started

Is HyperPay free to download?

Yes. Download HyperPay for Windows, macOS, or Linux at no cost — there is no licence fee and no paid tier required to install or use the wallet.

Is there a mobile app?

Mobile is in active development. Desktop builds for Windows, macOS and Linux are available now, and they are the full product rather than a companion app — custody modes, HyperCard, staking, lending and hardware pairing are all included.

Which custody mode should I start with?

Most people start custodial for convenience and add self-custody once they are comfortable backing up a recovery phrase. Because both modes live in one account, you can run them side by side and assign each balance whichever risk you prefer to carry. The HyperPay self-custody dual wallet page compares the two modes, and the guide to what a self-custody crypto wallet is explains the concept from scratch.

How long does setup take?

Installation and first launch take roughly three minutes on a normal connection. Creating a wallet, recording the recovery phrase and testing a restore takes longer, and it is worth doing before moving a meaningful balance into self-custody.

Who operates HyperPay?

HyperPay is operated by CipherBC Hyperpay Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-registered company. The wallet launched in 2017, is audited by SlowMist and CertiK, and holds custodial balances through HyperBC's institutional custody infrastructure.

Can crypto wallets like HyperPay be traced?

Most blockchain transactions are recorded on a public ledger. Read the full guide on whether crypto wallets can be traced.
